about

This is the 10th album release by
THE ERIC VON TUTRI FOUR
online-only Avantgarde Jazzrock collaboration since 2021
Thomas Zunk / Kike Paglia / Reg Parham / Ruud Dielen
...and guests (line-up see below).

Big words by the producer instead of a not to be expected review:

This release features one long composition with several sections, split into two parts. Of Grand Design by means of collage and montage, SWING GONE RONG follows a different concept than the other nine releases before and sort of closes the past phase of the band - both a resumée and an outlook in more than obvious ways:
Now it's not free improvisation over a given playback, where each improviser felt obliged to match, but completely free improvised independent and autonomous, stand-alone solos, combined in post-production by technique of layering and alignment. Tempi, keys and harmonics are absolutely free from restrictions now, no rules or Harmonielehre, to get NEW results both poli-rhythmically and into the microtonal realms of dissonaces in daring mixes of multi-layered voices and simultaneously happening solistic expressions of bewildering kind. A kaleidoscope of anarchic musical ideas by 10 musicians, from the rock side of jazz and the freejazz realm, that fall into their places with surprising Selbstverständlichkeit into a world of progressive rock-like soundscapes as if meant for them; assembled for the adventurous ear, full of - as usual - many unexpected turns, stops and breaks and other surprises with contrary moods in several distinguished parts and of course, the sounds of Mellotron and Theremin which want to take you back into the future!
A big band composition by improvising musicians as it could NEVER happen on stage, but made in exactly THAT spirit, with guest solo appearances by some of the finest european free jazz musicians of today.
SWING GONE RONG certainly is a MONUMENT due to it's sheer length and overpowering complexity and variety and immense density of voices in these two parts, a septet and an octet of 16 and 11 minutes duration, best to be listened though in one go with maximum concentration: The Maximalist's dream of 21st century Expressionism - it certainly needs a brave listener!
A FreeJazz-kind of Avantgarde Artrock.
